Elise has served as the James B. McClatchy Foundation’s Senior Learning Advisor since 2020. Previously, she served as the English Learner Program Officer for the Foundation. She has been in the field of education since 2000 as a reading specialist, literacy trainer, and independent consultant. Elise has a particular passion for literacy and English Learners and provides valuable coaching and professional development assistance to educators across California. Her interests led her to become the co-clinical director of the Reading and Academic Development (RAD) Center at UC Davis before coming to the Foundation. Elise earned a B.S. from Dartmouth College in Sociology and Education, and a Master’s in Education in language and literacy with a reading specialist credential from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. In her current role at The James B. McClatchy Foundation, Elise finds it immensely rewarding to provide grant funds and support to districts and educational organizations that are moving the needle for vulnerable youth.
