Lucy Ruiz

Background

Lucy is an experienced print and broadcast news journalist and public relations professional, who is the Executive Director of Public and Legislative Relations for State Center Community College District. As advisor to the chancellor, she played a pivotal role in the passage of a $485 million facilities bond, which is making possible a new and sorely-needed campus in the west Fresno area.

Having spent 18 years as the Community Services Director at Fresno’s CBS affiliate, Lucy has widespread understanding of community challenges and the diverse populations of the Central Valley.

Lucy earned a B.A. in Communications from the University of the Pacific, and an M.A. in Mass Communication from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. Lucy is a dedicated volunteer and was vice-chair of the Community Media Access Collaborative.

Her board service includes Arte Americas, The American Heart Association, Central California Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Fresno West Coalition for Economic Development, and the League of Mexican American Women Mariposa program. She has also served on the advisory boards of the Ronald McDonald House, the UC Cooperative Extension and the Fresno Childhood Immunization Coalition to name a few.
