Weaving Together Community shares the story of a team of Central Valley educators who brought together students, families, and community partners to create a multilingual learner family night celebrating the threads that tie us all together: culture, connection, and care. Held against a backdrop of heightened immigration enforcement and unjust deportations, the event became a powerful, albeit quiet, expression of multiracial democracy coming to life through the democratic act of gathering. These stories affirm that when schools center family voice and community power, community leaders – both inside and beyond the school – can build spaces of deep belonging, resilience, and hope.
Sunrise Futures: Moving Towards Liberation Highlights Central Valley Leaders who have embarked on catalyzing the power of community through local media, journalism, and storytelling. This campaign shares the stories of leaders reflecting on personal and professional experiences, and looking ahead to the futures they are imagining. It is a commitment to the people building the Central Valley’s future, both as individuals and as a collective. In this shared voice, we find the path forward.
Lifting Local Leaders is JBMF’s storytelling series that profiles Central Valley leaders.
