Protecting Our Future: The Case for the Central Valley's Multilingual Learners
Multilingual education is a vital thread in the fabric of the Central Valley’s diverse culture and community—yet its future remains uncertain. Without bold action and collective support for multilingual learners, we risk losing a key pillar of our region’s identity and future opportunity.
This report highlights the remarkable multilingual population of the Central Valley and examines the fiscal challenges districts face, innovative solutions emerging within schools, and policy recommendations essential to securing a thriving multilingual California. In particular, it spotlights efforts of Delhi Unified School District (Merced County), Washington Unified School District (Fresno County), and Lindsay Unified School District (Tulare County), showcasing their contributions to strengthening the broader educational ecosystem. These districts, alongside capacity-building partners across the Central Valley, play a crucial role in advancing multilingual education and expanding opportunities for students.
Our goal is to inform, inspire, and ignite meaningful dialogue with those shaping the future of multilingual education.
