Rappler Social Good Summit

On November 16th, 2025, Rappler’s Social Good Summit gathered journalists, human rights advocates, and civic leaders from around the world to reflect on the role of storytelling in an era defined by conflict, disinformation, and shifting democratic norms. Convened in Manila, the Summit highlighted how journalism continues to serve as a lifeline for communities navigating uncertainty, and a tool for visibility, accountability, and collective memory.

The James B. McClatchy Foundation was represented by Priscilla Enriquez, President & CEO, Keiona Williamson, Journalism Sustainability Director, and an inspiring delegation who underscored the Foundation’s long-standing commitment to storytelling and community-rooted journalism in the Central Valley.

Throughout the Summit, speakers offered powerful reminders of what journalism asks of those who practice it, and what communities receive in return. During the panel discussion, “Keeping Journalism Alive for Communities and Change,” participants explored how solidarity, community, and storytelling can rebuild trust and drive real change in times of crisis.

The lessons from Manila did not remain abstract. Delegates who traveled with us returned carrying stories, questions, and insights that sharpen how we understand this moment and what is being asked of us now. Delegates included Paulette Brown-Hinds, Founder and Publisher of Black Voice News; Susanna Cooper, Board of Directors for James B. McClatchy Foundation; Vince Sales, CEO of Everyday Impact Consulting; Ludovic Blain, CEO of California Donor Table; and Elaine Abelaye-Mateo, Founder of Everyday Impact Consulting.
